Bonzai Tarzan has worked as a guardian at Doctor Evariste Ossip Natural History Museum for over twenty years. He usually spends his days at the Tropical Bonzai Forest section nourishing the colony of Liliputean monkeys that live happily amidst the lush foliage, peeling miniature bananas with tweezers and pruning the infinite web of capironas, cercropias, figs, kapok and brazil nut trees. This painstaking, constant and stressful activity led him to develop an unusual relaxation therapy composed of calisthenics and music. This is the fourth release of Sunny Disposition and I am very happy to share it here!!!!!!

Algún día me dedicaré solo a traducir libros magníficos y seré feliz comiendo ensaladas y haciendo zazen. Por lo pronto coloco aquí el enlace a una de mis traducciones recientes: Yambos irregulares de Vladimir Nabokov

Ya ven, el autor está vivo en algún lado

Sin ambargo, el arte de estas tierras (aquel que aparece en la prensa y que se lleva premios en la Luna y en Marte) parece ir por un rumbo distinto al que me interesa. Ví a Maureen Landín (Gubia) en la televisión estatal y me identifico con su incomodidad ante el medio. Voy a museos, veo el cine que puedo en este corto período y muchas piezas me hacen feliz pero otras me recuerdan demasiado a las paredes y pisos limpios (muy limpios) de las casas burguesas (ese arte zombie : indios cubistas de manos rotas, manzanas gigantes que amenazan a indiferentes y diminutos seres en poncho). Siento  ahora que esa sensibilidad se transforma y aparece incluso en obras que pretenden deshacerse de ella. Pero en relaidad… prefiero ser vago ante las cosas que no me llegan a agradar. Estoy de acuerdo con el heladero gruñón de la Plaza Sainte Catherine de Bruselas: “¡Si no le gusta es su problema!”

 ENTONCES, entonces voy a escribir sobre lo que me alimenta y asombra. He caminado y caminado por las calles de Quito como hace mucho quería hacerlo. Voy junto a Anne (que hizo las fotografías) y nos conmovemos con la gente , con los niños que corren y corren sin detenerse, y los colores y texturas de las calles y la vegetación. Mis amigos nos llevaron a una fiesta indígena en la Sierra, en la zona de la Tola chica y la música y las danzas están entre lo mejor que he podido escuchar, sobre todo las piezas de guitarra, largas y minimalistas que me recordaron al primer concierto de los Animal collective que ví hace algunos años en Hasselt, el mejor que recuerde. Vimos una seleción de videos latinoamericanos  presentados dentro del contexto del simposio Video arde y nos quedamos con muchos momentos felices (no encontré en la red los títulos de la selección pero sí esta entrevista de la curadora de la muestra Laura Baigorri). Observo que en materia cinematográfica lo que más me interesa del Ecuador es el video y el mal llamado folk cinema (es un término bastante peregrino… pero suficiente para la necesidades de estas notas).

Esta visita aún no termina y es muy probable que aumente estas notas con otros detalles, o que mis impresiones se filtren en otros posts.
